Paul Jones worked in the steel industry for 24 years, predominantly in the area of pre-finished steel. For the last ten years Paul was a contributor to Tata Steels’ work in sustainable development including the development of life cycle assessment tools and carbon neutral products. Paul was instrumental in the development of steel-based products that can generate energy for buildings (such as transpired solar collectors), and latterly in developing heat storage solutions for both diurnal and inter-seasonal use. Paul has strong links with academia across the Welsh Universities, and is part of the Sustainable Building Envelope Centre (SBEC) team in conjunction with the Low Carbon Research Institute. Paul has worked closely with Swansea University in the area of coatings for many years and is one of the founder members with Prof Worsley of the SPECIFIC innovation and knowledge centre, currently acting as technology director, focusing on the scale-up of functional coatings for energy generation, storage and release on buildings. Paul has recently been awarded an Industrial Fellowship in the Sêr Cymru National Research Network based at Swansea University.
