Christian has extensive knowledge transfer experience at the interface of academia and industry, delivering the commercial imperative to opportunities. He is an accomplished promoter and broker of near market technologies both in the UK and overseas, possessing a strong network of senior level contacts in the private, public and HE sectors.
He has a proven record of strategic programme development and project management at the Welsh Development Agency and at Welsh Government where he developed, directed and delivered flagship programmes (Centres of Excellence and A4B). He has an academic background in the physical sciences obtained at Bristol (BSc Chemical Physics) and at Cambridge Universities (PhD and Post-Doctoral studies) and held industry and commercial positions in engineering (British Steel and Philips Electronics) and telecommunications. He has also worked independently, delivering projects for professional bodies, public, private and the HE sectors, predominantly at the commercial interface of academia.
Christian’s work at SPECIFIC builds on the above experience and focuses on business development, research commercialisation and strategic engagement with industry. This portfolio embraces seeking innovative short-term Collaborative R&D opportunities; developing engagement and commercialisation models; together with building strategies for the longer term funding for the centre itself.
A former pupil of Cefn Hengoed Comprehensive School, Swansea; he is a Chartered Physicist (CPhys) and Scientist (CSci). Christian has participated in many sports throughout his career and has many outside interests. Most importantly, he is an avid Swansea City supporter!
