He is author and co-author of 124 refereed scientific publications on coated product development. He has worked closely with the coatings industry since being appointed to the Materials Research Centre in the mid 1990’s, following an industry sponsored PhD (Johnson Matthey) and an Industrial Fellowship (Astra Zeneca). He is Research Director of the SPECIFIC IKC which now encompasses a £50m research and delivery portfolio for functional coatings applied to construction materials. This partnership is supported by 32 companies with international presence but a footprint in UK including Tata, BASF, NSG Pilkington and Vale INCO. A major focus is in the application of building integrated photovoltaics (BIPV) which can provide an aesthetically pleasing and low cost solution to integrating renewable energy into the building fabric. This work is supported by a strategic collaboration with Imperial College London (Sêr Cymru Sêr Solar) and a range of partner projects with Bath, Bristol, Loughborough, Bangor and Glyndwr University. Professor Worsley has 6 patents to his name related to the technology and materials processing of functional materials for buildings. Outside of work Professor Worsley is obsessed by cars with a fleet of 8 spanning early minis to two Electric Nissan Leafs.
