Tom studied materials science and engineering at Swansea in 2006, mainly due to a keen interest in engineering. After graduating Tom started working for SMaRT (Swansea Materials Research and Testing) a subsidiary company of Swansea Uni. Here, Tom undertook mechanical testing of superalloys and other engineering materials. Tom moved on to maintenance and developing novel testing equipment before eventually moving on to work at SPECIFIC.
In his initial role at SPECIFIC, Tom researched and developed ideas into prototypes, mainly electrical and electronic development but also mechanical too…so genuinely a bit of everything! Tom is a qualified CAD user (Autodesk) so is able to take an idea from the drawing board to real life. Tom has recently been promoted to a role as Technology Transfer Fellow - Smart Systems Integration and Development. Tom’s main focus is currently to develop and implement smart control systems for buildings.
