Swansea University will be hosting the South Wales Materials Association's Vivian Lecture, on Wednesday 13th May, from 18:00 to 21:00pm at the Faraday Lecture Theatre, Swansea University as part of the promotion of the new Engineering Manufacturing Centre (EMC) at the University’s exciting new development, the Science and Innovation Campus, opening September 2015.
This year's Vivian speaker is Professor Mark Miodownik from University College London, who will be presenting Stuff Matters.
Professor Miodownik is a British materials engineer, broadcaster and writer at University College London. Previously, he was the head of the Materials Research Group at King's College London, and a co-founder of Materials Library. Professor Miodownik writes for The Guardian and The Times, and he is a regular presenter of engineering TV programmes the BBC. In 2013 he was awarded the Rooke Medal by the Royal Academy of Engineering. His book Stuff Matters: The Strange Stories of the Marvellous Materials that Shape Our Man-Made World won the 2014 Royal Society Winton Prize for Science Books.
The lecture will be preceded by a drinks reception and a buffet.
