SWMA Win IOM3 Society of the Year Award

Representatives from Tata and Swansea University collected a prestigious award on behalf of the South Wales Materials Association (SWMA) from the Institute of Materials at the Premier Awards Event in London in July this year. The award was in recognition of the excellent series of interesting and diverse lecture events hosted by the SWMA and for the innovative promotion methods used to increase attendances.

Talks held have covered a diverse range of subjects from the science of Superheroes to the fracture mechanics of glass. Talks attracted audiences of up to 160, with ages ranging from 11 up to 80 years old.

Professor David Worsley, Academic Director of SPECIFIC and head of Swansea University’s Materials Research Centre, said “this award is well deserved - the SWMA is going from strength to strength and provides our students with fantastic continuous professional development, thought provoking talks and a chance to meet with our industrial colleagues in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere”
